Stellenbosch had its start in 1679 when Simon van der Stel, newly appointed governor of the Dutch East India Company at the Cape of Good Hope set out to explore the countryside with a view to expanding the produce trading possibilities with ships passing Table Bay on their way to and from Europe to the far East on trading expeditions.

Today it is known for its wine, fruit, flowers and unique Cape Dutch architecture, protected by heritage status.  It is also home to one of the most prestigious universities in the southern hemisphere providing a major contribution to culture, politics, science, agriculture and sport.

Enjoy a delightful stroll through the stately oak lined avenues bordered by babbling water furrows of this beautiful, old town with a registered, experienced tour guide, to introduce you to the pioneer spirit, local language and quaint customs of this charming valley of oaks.
